## Description

Alexandria International is best understood as a military field that also carries civilians. Built as England Air Force Base and reborn after its 1992 closure as the England Airpark, it keeps a long runway, a 24-hour control tower and a US Customs port of entry — infrastructure far larger than its commercial cargo role. Delta serves Atlanta and American serves Dallas-Fort Worth, but much of the real traffic is troop charters for Fort Johnson (formerly Fort Polk), about 95 km west, and its Joint Readiness Training Center. The ramp more often loads soldiers bound for exercises than pallets bound for market. Commercial air freight for the region runs through the integrators at New Orleans (MSY).
