## Description

Roughly 817 kilometres from the geographic North Pole, Alert (YLT) on Ellesmere Island is the northernmost airport on Earth. It operates alongside Canadian Forces Station Alert and sees no scheduled passenger or commercial freight service. Resupply arrives twice a year through the Royal Canadian Air Force airlift known as Operation Boxtop, flown by CC-130 Hercules and CC-177 Globemaster aircraft. For commercial air cargo into Nunavut, Iqaluit (YFB) is the nearest genuine handling point. Forwarders should treat Alert as a government and military outpost rather than a freight destination.
