## Description

Aleknagik means roughly «wrong way home», a name left by Yup'ik paddlers who missed the river mouth — and the airport that carries it, Aleknagik / New Airport (WKK, FAA 5A8), handled just 54,000 lb of freight in 2015, about 24 tonnes. It serves a village of some 200 people on Aleknagik Lake in Alaska's Bristol Bay region, the gateway to Wood-Tikchik State Park, the largest state park in the United States. The single gravel runway (15/33) measures roughly 620 m, and scheduled service ended when PenAir withdrew its Dillingham link. Unusually for the Alaskan bush, a road of about 40 km connects the village to the regional airport at Dillingham (DLG), some 27 km away as the crow flies. Consignments are therefore routed through Dillingham and trucked in, while summer traffic is dominated by floatplanes serving fishing lodges. For customs-relevant air freight, Anchorage (ANC) is Alaska's decisive handling point.
