## Description

Commercial service began on 25 May 2016, when Alcantarí Airport (SRE/SLAL) took over from the cramped Juana Azurduy de Padilla field inside Sucre, Bolivia's constitutional capital; the new site handled roughly 178,000 passengers in 2023 with almost no freight. It sits about 32 km south-east of the city in the Yamparáez municipality at around 3,100 metres, an altitude that visibly caps take-off payloads. Boliviana de Aviación, EcoJet and Amaszonas fly domestic routes from here to La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz. Whatever cargo moves travels as belly cargo on those passenger services; a dedicated cargo terminal or scheduled freighter operation is not confirmed. Shippers in the Chuquisaca region therefore truck consignments to Viru Viru (VVI) in Santa Cruz, where most Bolivian air-freight customs clearance is concentrated. Cochabamba (CBB) is the practical second option for domestic feeder movements.
