## Description

About 10,000 military personnel were based at Al Udeid Air Base (XJD/OTBH) as of 2026, and none of the traffic they generate is commercial air cargo. Located southwest of Doha, Al Udeid is the largest US military installation in the Middle East and also hosts the Qatar Emiri Air Force and Royal Air Force elements. Its transport function is strategic military airlift and aerial refuelling; a 2024 cargo pad upgrade mainly improved rotary-wing capacity. The base was hit by Iranian missiles on 23 June 2025 and remained operational, a reminder of how quickly Gulf security events can spill over into civil air freight planning. Commercial shipments to Qatar all move through Hamad International (DOH), roughly 35 km northeast, where Qatar Airways Cargo runs a dedicated freight terminal and freighter fleet. Trucking from DOH reaches Doha, Al Rayyan and the Mesaieed industrial zone within one to two hours, while Hamad Port covers heavy and oversized cargo by sea.
