## Description

Built in the 1970s with Soviet assistance, Al Qusayr Air Base in Syria's Homs Governorate has never handled civil traffic and plays no role in air freight. It is a Syrian Air Force facility with a single runway and no cargo handling infrastructure or customs post. The airfield changed hands twice during the fighting around Al-Qusayr in 2013, and after the change of government in Syria in late 2024 the status of many Syrian military airfields remains unsettled; no civil or commercial use of Al Qusayr is confirmed. Freight destined for Homs in practice moves through Beirut (BEY, roughly 130 km west, with a border crossing) or Damascus International (DAM, roughly 130 km south), followed by road transport. A large share of goods reaches Syria by sea through Latakia or Tartus rather than by air. Sanctions and export-control checks still apply to Syrian shipments depending on the country of origin and must be clarified before booking.
