## Description

Two runways, military dispersals and no cargo apron: Al Mansurah Airbase in Egypt's Dakahlia Governorate is an Egyptian Air Force installation, not a commercial airport. Commissioned in 1985 in the Nile Delta near Mansoura, it operates runways 14/32 and 17/35 and hosts No. 57 and No. 58 Squadrons of the 308 Close Air Support Tactical Wing within the 139 Air Division, flying Alpha Jet MS1/2 aircraft. There is no cargo terminal, no ground handling agent and no customs clearance for commercial goods; movements are limited to military transport and training flights. Air freight for the Mansoura area is instead routed through Cairo International (CAI), roughly 120 road kilometres south and by far Egypt's largest air cargo gateway, or through Borg El Arab near Alexandria (HBE). For sea freight and multimodal solutions the port of Damietta lies about 60 km to the north, well connected by the Delta motorway network. The name Mansoura is historically associated with the October 1973 air battle, although the present airfield only dates from 1985.
