## Description

Yemen's largest air base is also one of its least relevant airfields for anyone shipping goods: Al Anad Air Base, in the Tuban district of Lahij governorate, is a purely military installation with no civil or cargo traffic. It has been held by government forces and allied southern units since August 2015 and was struck repeatedly during the civil war. There is no freight terminal and no routine customs operation on site, and international ground handling providers decline to serve the field, citing sanctions rules. Commercial air freight for southern Yemen therefore moves through Aden International Airport (ADE), roughly 60 km to the south, backed by the seaport of Aden for containerised and breakbulk volumes. Sanaa (SAH) remains only partly usable because of the conflict, so relief agencies rely mainly on humanitarian air services into Aden for passengers and light cargo. Shippers planning consignments for this region should allow for the road leg out of Aden and treat security and sanctions screening as a mandatory first step.
