## Description

At 3,600 metres, the main runway at Al Abraq International Airport can take wide-body aircraft — unusual for a domestic field in eastern Libya. It serves Bayda in the Jabal al-Akhdar highlands of Cyrenaica, some 16 kilometres to the west and roughly 12 kilometres inland from the Mediterranean. Scheduled traffic is thin: Buraq Air links Bayda with Mitiga in Tripoli on a handful of weekly rotations, and well over 90 percent of movements are domestic. Ground and cargo handling are provided by Gulf Pearl Aviation, so freight charters are technically feasible, but there is no meaningful scheduled cargo. Regular air freight for the region is consolidated through Benina near Benghazi, the east's principal cargo gateway.
