## Description

Aksu Hongqipo Airport (AKU/ZWAK) moved 11,306 tonnes of cargo and mail plus about 2.78 million passengers in 2025, ranking third among the regional airports of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Throughput grew by more than ten per cent year on year, driven largely by the prefecture's farm output — cotton, dried fruit and nuts — and by e-commerce parcels heading to the Chinese heartland. Almost all of it travels as belly cargo aboard domestic passenger flights; no sustained freighter operation by international cargo airlines is confirmed here. Prefecture authorities have an expansion project under review that explicitly targets greater capacity and the build-up of air cargo business. Consignments needing customs clearance, cold chain or dangerous-goods handling still route through Urumqi Tianshan (URC) roughly 700 km to the north-east, reachable by the G3012 expressway and by rail, while Kashgar (KHG) is the closer option at about 450 km south-west and doubles as the road gateway towards Central Asia. Exporters of perishables from the Aksu area should therefore budget close to a full day of pre-carriage by truck to the nearest genuine freight gateway.
