## Description

A single 1,148-square-metre cargo terminal operated by Menzies Aviation, rated at roughly 16,000 tonnes a year, is the whole of the freight infrastructure at Aji Pangeran Tumenggung Pranoto International Airport (IATA: AAP, ICAO: WALS). It moved 4,184 tonnes in 2024, up 17.6 per cent, alongside 846,252 passengers on a 470-hectare site about 25 km from Samarinda, capital of Indonesia's East Kalimantan province. Opened in 2018 to replace the cramped inner-city Temindung field, the airport works almost entirely on belly cargo carried by narrow-body flights to Jakarta and Surabaya. Its 2,250-metre runway is being extended towards 3,000 metres, which would admit wide-body aircraft for the first time; until then, heavy or containerised consignments route through the larger coastal airport at Balikpapan (BPN), roughly two hours south by road. Customs clearance runs through Indonesia's Bea Cukai authority and international freight remains rare despite the airport's title. For forwarders, AAP is a regional feeder for express and general cargo tied to the coal, oil and palm-oil economy of the Mahakam basin.
