## Description

Built up into one of NATO's largest airbases during the post-2001 war, Kandahar's Ahmad Shah Baba International Airport (KDH) has reverted to civilian use in southern Afghanistan. Ariana Afghan Airlines and Kam Air now fly domestic routes and a few Gulf services from its long military-grade runways. For cargo, Kandahar is the outlet for the south's farm produce: pomegranates and fresh fruit have moved as belly freight to India and the Gulf under Afghanistan's air-corridor schemes. The infrastructure can in principle handle larger freighters, though routine volumes remain modest. Heavier consignments travel overland to Pakistan via the Chaman/Spin Boldak crossing or up the Ring Road to Kabul.
