## Description

With a 3,500-metre runway — the longest in the country — Aeropuerto Internacional Dr. Luis María Argaña (ESG) looks far bigger than its traffic warrants. Set near Mariscal Estigarribia deep in Paraguay's Chaco, it functions chiefly as an air-force base with almost no scheduled service. For air freight the airport plays no practical part: shipments move through Asunción (ASU) some 500 km to the southeast. Its real weight is on the ground, sitting on the Ruta Transchaco toward the Bolivian border. In 2025 the Paraguayan government began studying options to put the underused field to better use, including a possible role in the planned Bioceanic Corridor. As an air-cargo location, though, ESG still offers no dedicated freight infrastructure.
