## Description

Drone maker Tekever and Sevenair Academy, one of Europe's largest flight schools, anchor the aeronautical cluster that has grown up at Aeródromo Municipal de Ponte de Sor (ICAO: LPSO) in Portugal's Alentejo. The 1,800 m ILS-equipped runway and ANAC Class II (Code 3C) certification let the field handle far more than ordinary general aviation: maintenance firm Aeromec opened an 8,000 m² hangar in 2024 that holds three A320-class aircraft at once. From 2026, the LUS-222 — the first aircraft developed in Portugal, with 19 seats, a 2,000 kg payload and 2,000 km range — is due to be built here. Roughly 600 people and some 17 companies now work across R&D, production, maintenance and training. The airport itself runs no commercial cargo service, however; time-critical air freight for the region is routed through Lisbon (LIS), about 150 km to the south-west.
