## Description

Three flights a day in 2011, more than forty now — Aden Adde (MGQ/HCMM) measures Somalia's return to international air traffic and remains the country's main air-cargo entry. Turkish operator Favori LLC has run the airport since 2013 and opened the current terminal in 2015. Most freight arrives as belly cargo with Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, EgyptAir and flydubai, while Kenya Airways adds dedicated cargo services; there is no wide-body freighter terminal, so shipment sizes have to be planned around narrow-body and turboprop capacity. Humanitarian logistics run on a separate track: the UN Humanitarian Air Service uses Mogadishu as a base for hard-to-reach inland destinations, moving an average of about 16 tonnes of light cargo per month across Somalia, alongside UN support-mission supply flights. Inbound flows are dominated by relief goods, pharmaceuticals, spare parts and consumer items, customs-cleared on site and almost always handled through local agents, while bulk volumes go by sea via the Port of Mogadishu a few kilometres away — a practical sea-air option. Security screening was tightened sharply in March 2025 after attack warnings, briefly prompting some carriers to suspend flights. Forwarders needing capacity or schedule reliability consolidate at Nairobi (NBO) or Addis Ababa (ADD), and use Hargeisa (HGA) for northern Somalia.
