## Description

Adana's city airport is still there, but its airline traffic is not: Şakirpaşa (IATA: ADA, ICAO: LTAF) in the Seyhan district lost scheduled services by Turkish Airlines, AJet and Pegasus when the new Çukurova Airport opened on 10 August 2024. Şakirpaşa now handles mainly private and business aviation, flight training and air sports, with no freighter movements and no commercial cargo handling. Air freight for Adana, Mersin and the wider Çukurova plain is routed through Çukurova Airport (COV), about 35 km from central Adana and roughly 50 km from Mersin. A cargo terminal operated by Turkish Cargo was inaugurated there in 2025 and is described by the operator as Turkey's second-largest air cargo facility, with an annual capacity of about 25,000 tonnes. That gives this export-oriented agricultural and textile region dedicated on-site freight infrastructure for the first time. For widebody freighter capacity Istanbul (IST) remains the fallback, while the port of Mersin covers ocean and multimodal options.
