## Description

Abakan International Airport (IATA: ABA, ICAO: UNAA) is the only airfield in the Republic of Khakassia cleared for all common aircraft types, yet its throughput stays modest — roughly 1,000 tonnes of freight and 169 tonnes of mail in 2017. That contrast makes it useful for charter and outsize consignments while leaving routine air cargo to belly space on domestic flights. S7 Airlines carries most of the traffic, linking Abakan with Novosibirsk, Moscow Domodedovo, Krasnoyarsk, Kyzyl and Irkutsk; there are no scheduled international routes at present. Runway and terminal upgrades have improved the airport's ability to accept larger aircraft, but no specialised cargo facility exists on site. Mining, aluminium and timber industries in southern Siberia generate most of the demand, with surface legs running along the R257 (Yenisei) federal highway and the Abakan–Taishet railway to the Trans-Siberian mainline. For larger volumes, Krasnoyarsk Yemelyanovo (KJA), about 390 km north, is the established Siberian cargo hub, while Novosibirsk Tolmachevo (OVB) offers the widest network. Sanctions affecting traffic to and from Russia should be verified with a freight forwarder before booking.
