# Turkish Cargo (IATA TK · ICAO THY · AWB 235)

> Turkish Cargo is the freight brand of the Turkish carrier Turkish Airlines and issues air waybills under IATA code TK and AWB prefix 235. Turkish Cargo holds no air operator certificate of its own; the operator is Türk Hava Yolları A.O. The model combines a dedicated freighter fleet with the belly capacity of the passenger network via the Istanbul hub. For forwarders what matters most is the 235 prefix on the air waybill and the transfer function of Istanbul between Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. IATA CEIV certificates for pharma, perishables and live animals are valid until 2029.

## Overview

Turkish Cargo is the freight brand of Türk Hava Yolları A.O. (Turkish Airlines Inc.), based in Istanbul. It is not a separate airline: all cargo flights operate under the air operator certificate of Turkish Airlines. The European agency EASA lists Turkish Airlines Inc. under operator number TR-001 with the trade names Turkish Airlines, AnadoluJet and Turkish Cargo. The parent company's codes therefore apply: IATA code TK, ICAO code THY, AWB prefix 235. For forwarders this means that every Turkish Cargo air waybill begins with the number range 235.

The operating model combines a dedicated freighter fleet with the belly capacity of the passenger network. According to the carrier, the freighter fleet comprised eleven Boeing 777F and ten Airbus A330-200F as of 6 September 2026, making Turkish Cargo one of the largest A330-200F operators. The Boeing 777F is used mainly on long-haul routes to the Americas and the Far East.

The hub is Istanbul Airport (IST). Since 2022 Turkish Cargo has consolidated belly and freighter traffic at the SMARTIST cargo centre, which the carrier states has an annual capacity of around 2.2 million tonnes; an expansion to 4.5 million tonnes by 2028 has been announced. According to its own figures, Turkish Cargo serves more than 370 stations in over 120 countries.

In special cargo, Turkish Cargo holds the IATA certifications CEIV Pharma, CEIV Fresh and CEIV Live Animals, which were renewed until 2029 in June 2026. The product range includes TK Pharma, TK Fresh, TK Live, TK Care for dangerous goods, TK Valuable and TK Courier for e-commerce. Booking, flight schedule and shipment tracking run via turkishcargo.com and the agent portal TKGO.
