# Swiss WorldCargo (IATA LX · ICAO SWR · AWB 724)

> SWISS WorldCargo is the airfreight division of Swiss International Air Lines Ltd. and trades under IATA code LX with AWB prefix 724. The brand belongs to the Lufthansa Group via Swiss International Air Lines and works closely with Lufthansa Cargo. It runs no freighters and sells belly capacity on the SWISS passenger fleet and on Edelweiss Air only. For forwarders, SWISS WorldCargo is the natural choice for high-value, care-intensive Swiss exports – pharmaceuticals, watches, valuables and perishables – with short transit times via Zurich. Anyone needing full freighter capacity or outsize consignments has to switch to an all-cargo carrier.

## Overview

SWISS WorldCargo is the airfreight division of Swiss International Air Lines Ltd., registered at Obstgartenstrasse 25 in Kloten and part of the Lufthansa Group through its parent company. The brand is not a separate airline: the aircraft operator is Swiss International Air Lines, whose designators SWISS WorldCargo also uses in the cargo business - IATA code LX, ICAO designator SWR and AWB prefix 724.

The operating model is belly cargo only. SWISS WorldCargo runs no freighters of its own; it markets the cargo capacity of the SWISS passenger fleet as well as belly capacity on Edelweiss Air. As of 1 March 2026 the SWISS fleet comprised 92 aircraft: 12 Boeing 777-300ER, 14 Airbus A330-300, 4 Airbus A340-300 and 2 Airbus A350-900 on long-haul routes, plus 60 short- and medium-haul aircraft of the A220, A320 and A321 families. With a full passenger load, up to 24.5 tonnes are available for cargo and mail depending on the type; a temperature-controlled cargo compartment is available on the widebodies.

The hub is Zurich Airport, complemented by Geneva as a second long-haul departure point. From there the network reaches more than 130 destinations, with a road feeder service connecting further European points by truck. Since 1 August 2025 SWISS WorldCargo has been part of the joint business agreement between Lufthansa Cargo and United Cargo across the North Atlantic.

For forwarders, SWISS WorldCargo is above all a niche carrier for care-intensive goods: pharmaceuticals and healthcare, valuables, perishables, live animals, dangerous goods and mail. The division has held IATA CEIV Pharma certification since 2018 and renewed it in 2021 and 2024.
