# Middle East Airlines Cargo (IATA ME · ICAO MEA · AWB 076)

> Middle East Airlines Cargo is the cargo arm of Lebanon's state carrier Middle East Airlines Airliban S.A.L., with IATA designator ME and AWB prefix 076. It holds no air operator certificate of its own and markets only belly capacity on the parent company's Airbus scheduled fleet out of the Beirut hub; handling is provided by group subsidiary MEAG. Forwarders reach the Lebanese market through MEA on the country's only available air route, but must reckon with belly capacity only, booking via the iCargo portal and frequencies that fluctuate with the regional conflict.

## Overview

Middle East Airlines Cargo is the cargo arm of Middle East Airlines Airliban S.A.L., the state-owned flag carrier of Lebanon, based at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut. Its majority shareholder is the Lebanese central bank, Banque du Liban. The cargo arm is not a carrier in its own right: it holds no separate air operator certificate, and the air waybill, liability and claims always rest with the parent company. Frachtportal therefore lists it as a pure belly-cargo marketer.

Only belly cargo in the holds of the airline's own scheduled fleet is carried; MEA operates no freighters. According to ch-aviation, as of September 2024 the fleet consisted of nine Airbus A320-200s, ten Airbus A321-200NXs and four Airbus A330-200s. No more recent dated fleet count can be evidenced from primary sources, because the carrier's fleet page loads its content via JavaScript and returns empty on direct retrieval. A321neo(XLR)s and A330-900s are on order, with deliveries repeatedly deferred.

The sole hub is Beirut Rafic Hariri International (BEY), also Lebanon's only international gateway for air cargo. Ground handling and cargo terminal operations are provided by the group company Middle East Airlines Ground Handling S.A.L. (MEAG), which runs a cargo centre on a 20,645 square metre site with fifteen cold stores, a dedicated dangerous goods area, two valuables rooms and a sealed area for radioactive material, and which states it is TAPA certified and holds RA3 status for the EU and the United Kingdom.

For forwarders: IATA designator ME, ICAO designator MEA, AWB prefix 076. Booking and shipment tracking run through the IBS Software iCargo portal, which requires credentials; no openly accessible AWB tracking on the carrier website is evidenced. MEA has belonged to the SkyTeam alliance since 28 June 2012 but is not a member of SkyTeam Cargo. Given the regional security situation, frequencies and destinations may change at short notice; capacity should be confirmed before every booking.
